Memories by Betsy Custom Gift baskets delivered to your Disney hotel - Review

About Betsy (From the Website)

AboutOur family of four moved to Celebration, Florida in 2006. Memories by Betsy was established in 2007 when a friend who was leaving the area asked me to continue the Gift Basket business. Since then, I've created thousands of baskets and gifts for clients from all over the world.

I truly enjoy working with clients to create the perfect gift for family and friends. Thank you for all the support over the years. I look forward to assisting you on your next magical vacation!

My Review:

As I sit here in the Port Orleans French Quarter, I can’t help but wonder how exactly I got here. I mean just 2 months ago I was in the Disneyland Hotel and was telling my husband it’ll be weird that this will be the first time in 6 years that we will not be going to Disney World; he assured me he would finagle his way into getting to Disney World before the calendar turned to 2012. My husband is a good finageler, he always finds some way to convince me into letting him get his way, normally it’s a TV but this time it was a somewhat last minute trip to WDW.

Part of his concession was that we could stay at the Port Orleans and not the Poly *GASP*! For my husband that’s a big thing, ever since we set foot in the Poly on our honeymoon he was in love with that resort. He went from a staunch All Star Resorter “It’s just a room!” he’d always say to an absolute resort snob. Once you go deluxe it’s hard to go back, the ease of the monorail loop is nice, the bigger rooms are nice, the food options are many, the themed pools are great etc.  And if you ask my husband the smell of the Poly is worth the price of admission.
But this trip no Poly, we stayed at PORFQ last June for Star Wars weekend and decided that’s where we would stay on this current trip. We love the theming, we love visiting New Orleans and this gives us a good New Orleans vibe, plus it’s fun to say we were in the real French Quarter and the Imagineered one within a a few months of each other!

With this trip I wanted to do something a little more special for my daughter, she’ll be starting first grade in a couple of weeks she’s getting so big too fast! What to do for a kid who has become used to going to Disney World? I hit Google for a  little help and Google gave me the answer Memories by Betsy (http://www.memoriesbybetsy.com/mbb/index.php) what better way to get welcomed to Disney World than a personalized gift basket that’s delivered to your room?

We had to change our flight due to Hurricane Irene and arrived a day earlier than planned, we walked into our room and sitting on the table was my daughter’s gift basket! That’s the kind of service you really don’t find too often anymore, we had a change of plans and I was expecting to see the basket on Saturday but Betsy got the basket to us for our arrival. I was floored! And so was our daughter! She couldn’t wait to get into the basket and see what she got.
She went from zombie like to being wide awake in the span of 5 seconds. Her eye’s just about bugged out of her skull when she saw the plush Ariel, she loves Ariel and this basket was all about Ariel. Along with her new plush Ariel was the rubber dress up Ariel, she LOVES these dolls, we just bought the Rapunzel set while in Disneyland and adding Ariel to the collection almost gives her a complete set. These dolls keep her occupied for hours, she changes all the dresses and shoe’s and mixes up all the Princesses so they’re wearing each other’s dresses. She begged us to open in, but it was after midnight and we had to pry them out of her hands and try to get her to sleep. And who did she sleep with? Her new plush Ariel, she’s also brought Ariel with her to Magic Kingdom and Epcot so far, Ariel really enjoyed Test Track we could tell that by the smile on her face.

This basket was the best option, it was loaded with all kinds of great Disney goodies, not “Disney like” products with just knockoff princesses these were real honest to goodness Disney products. You get

Princess Ears w "my daughters name" on back
Princess Autograph Book
Princess Pen
Ariel Fashion Play Set (Polly Pocket style)
Ariel Plush
Epcot Passport (to get stamped at all the "countries")
Expect quality when you order a basket from Betsy. Along with her Ariel goodies my daughter received princess mouse ears with her name embroidered on them a princess autograph book and matching pen and the Epcot passport. We had a fun time going to all the Kidcot Fun Stops and collecting the stamps and having my daughter’s name written in Chinese, Japanese and Arabic (Morocco). She loves seeing her name written in something other than English and it’s been a neat learning experience because she gets the opportunity to talk to all the Cast Members at each country so the exposure to other cultures has sparked an interest in her and she’s been asking about every country she walked in to. And it helped her walk around the World Showcase without complaining about getting tired she couldn’t wait to get to the next pavilion.

So along with all of the fun she’s having with the toys she’s learning about all the countries due to the passport. I couldn’t be more happy with this basket, it was a hit and I would whole heartedly recommend a Memories by Betsy basket, Betsy is great to work with and ordering a basket is a breeze. Each basket is custom made for you, you can tell Betsy what character/characters you love and she will send you a breakdown of what will be put in the basket and a price. If you would like something taken out of the basket, or something added, just let Betsy know.  And after the basket list is agreed upon Betsy will send you an invoice via paypal and if you would like she will also send you a picture of your basket (we wanted to be surprised) and then when you get to your hotel while on vacation the basket will arrive. If it’s your first trip or your one hundredth trip memories are always there to be made and this is a great way to start. What better way to start off a great vacation?

We also have an incredible collection of gifts for any occasion and you may personalize your shopping experience by creating a wishlist or custom gift registry for your special event!

We carry products from many of the world’s leading manufacturers and designers of sustainable, natural, organic, recycled, eco-friendly goods- products that are made with your health and the health of our planet in mind. Many of these companies are amongst the most socially responsible companies around. We also carry some green products made by companies that did not start out with environmental concerns in mind, but now realize the importance of sustainable practices and production in launching green lines within their category. We hope that in supporting these manufacturers, they will continue to move in this positive direction.

The Ultimate Green Store has a great variety of great items, who knew there could be so many great green items in one place? Here are a few of my favorite items:

The Maggie Purses they are made from recycled seat bets, and are so stylish!

Organic Jersey sheets, I love the colors!

I was lucky enough to be able to review this lovely jacket for my daughter:

Color Grown Organic Cotton Children’s Hooded Jacket: Searching for that perfect organic cotton hooded jacket for your 2 to 8 year old? This jacket by Lapsaky is made with thick and warm natural colored organic cotton fleece on the inside and heavy weight brown organic cotton color grown twill on the outside. It zips closed with a kid friendly zipper, and features kangaroo pockets for the days treasures. This jacket is sized with room to grow.  The jacket’s color is made with natural (unbleached) organic cotton fleece lining (sweatshirt fleece-not "polar" fleece).

 My review:

The Ultimate Green store is just that.. It is ultimate! They have everything you could want, and they are all green items and I love that. I love to buy eco friendly items when I can, it really shows my daughter how important it is to buy green items. We only have one earth we all have to do what we can it save it.   If you are shopping for bedding, kids clothing, and even school supplies! They have what you are looking for. Now I know what some of you may be thinking, will they only have scratchy "natural" clothes, will they actually be attractive and green?

Well I can answer that question with a big YES! I received a Color Grown Organic Cotton Children’s Hooded Jacket for my daughter, this jacket was very soft and it is also very warm, this will be a great jacket for the fall. My daughter is starting 1st grade in September, and this will be a great jacket to wear to school, it is natural and warm and I thing she looks very cute in it. This will be a great jacket to run around the schoolyard during recess in.  The ultimate Green Sore has a great selection of organic childrens clothes, from pants, to tops to pj's.

I would love an adult version of this jacket, but they only make it to size 8 years... I do not think that will fit :) I would recommend checking out the Ultimate Green Store, they have a great selection and you will fin just what you need. They are having some great sales right now you could get a great deal as well...

Oh and I am serious about the Maggie bag, I would love any of the styles a large one or a small one.... I would love one for Christmas, take this as a hint hint for my hubby!

Canvas Pictures

My Review:

Last January in the middle of a blizzard my husband came in from shoveling and declared he needed to get away. Get away, in more than two foot of snow? He promptly sat at the lap top and pulled up Disney’s site and began booking his trip in June for Star Wars Weekends, at that time it was a solo trip, it soon turned into a family trip which made him happy. Those few days we spent in WDW seemed to be one of my husband’s favorite trips down, it combined Disney and Star Wars two of his favorite things.

When I had the chance to get a canvas print from Easy Canvas Prints (http://www.easycanvasprints.com/) I decided to pick a picture and surprise my husband with it.
I had the chance to put together an 8 x 10 print and I knew immediately what photo I would use, it was the three of us with Boba Fett, which is my hubby’s favorite character, Boba Fett. I knew he’d flip when I showed him the pic and I was right. He saw the canvas print and instantly a smile grew across his face, I could see all those memories rushing back into his head, like getting up at 2:30 am to get to the Studios to get in line for his fast pass autograph ticket for Ray Park.

This canvas print is nice, the colors really pop and it such a unique way of displaying pictures. Sure we can get the regular 3 x 5 pictures and put them in a frame but why not get a picture of two that have meaning blow them up and get them put on a canvas? No frame needed it is all set and ready to go and it looks great hanging on the wall in his cave. Easy Prints name says it all, their site is simple to navigate and it only takes a few minutes from start to finish.

A picture on canvas also makes for a terrific gift idea, it looks like a million bucks but will only set you back as low as $29.95. If you want a gigantic 30 x 40 that will cost you $170.14, a framed photo that large will set you back twice that much and having you picture printed on canvas is really different. This is a great site, they do wonderful work that you will be proud to display in your home, it’s a conversation piece a real attention grabber, people who see it will be impressed.

Earthquake!

The building just shook! In Philadelphia we just felt the aftermath of the Virginia earth quake.

I have never experienced any kind of earthquake, so this was a bit scary, confusing (what on earth is going on?) and surprising!

I thought we did not get earthquakes on the east coast?

Dave’s Toffee - Review (And a Giveaway)

At Dave's toffee they keep it simple!

Fancy is too complicated. Real butter, real sugar, real milk chocolate and hand sliced almonds prepared with love, one batch at a time, every time. Consistency is the key to their recipe. At Dave's they don't stock pile their ingredients. They purchase them according to order size to ensure freshness and maintain taste integrity.
Dave's Sweet Tooth is and will always be Hand Made. Homemade. Michigan Made.

I’ve taken over my lovely wife’s blog because I need to let you know about something special. No not me Dave’s Sweet Tooth! The tag line on Dave’s Sweet Tooth’s website (http://www.davessweettooth.com/index.html) is .. it’s toffee. I beg to differ! I’ve had toffee, a lot of toffee from commercial to handmade I’ve had it all….or so I thought.

I love toffee, not as much as cinnamon, but it’s not too far behind. I took a bite of Dave’s toffee and instantly fell in love with toffee all over again. I kid you not, this toffee is THAT GOOD. It’s the perfect balance of everything, not too sweet and not too hard. I want to be able to enjoy toffee not worry about breaking a tooth, Dave’s toffee is perfect just hard enough for that snap but not brick like. And the flavor is perfect, I’ve had flavorless toffee and toffee that put me into a diabetic coma and I’m not a diabetic!

I told my wife if I drop dead tomorrow make sure some of this toffee is buried with me, just in case I go down and not up I need something to bribe the devil with and this toffee will buy my way out. A 1.5 pound mason jar of toffee is $22.00 and the 12 ounce mini mason is $12.00, well worth the money this toffee has my seal of approval.

If you love toffee as much as I do visit Dave’s Sweet Tooth and buy a couple of jars. And remember my birthday is in a month feel free to send me a jar for my special day because the one we have here is almost empty…

Lefty's Left Handed Store - Review

About Lefty's (from the website)

www.leftyslefthanded.com is the online store of Lefty's San Francisco. In 1978, the Left Hand World opened on PIER 39 in San Francisco in a little 350 square foot space. It was the very first store in the United States to cater to left handers. After more than a decade it closed due to family illness, but remained in the minds of many lefties and their friends and families. The management of PIER 39 regularly fielded queries from guests about the store. When the original location of Left Hand World became available again, the PIER asked us to bring it back --- so 30 years after its original opening, reinvented and modernized, we brought you LEFTY'S SAN FRANCISCO, THE LEFT HAND STORE, in the original location, downstairs, halfway down PIER 39, on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Lefty's was instantly so popular that it was packed much of the time. In 2011, we moved to a much larger space a few doors away. We invite you to visit the store when you are in town, and if you can't make it to San Francisco, shop at www.leftyslefthanded.com. A limited selection of our best items can be found at our LEFTY'S kiosk at Downtown Disney, The Marketplace, Orlando, Florida.

My Review:

Jerry Seinfeld, Don Rickles, Jimi Hendrix, Barack Obama, Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, Steve Carlton, Dick Van Dyke, Oprah, Jack the Ripper, Ned Flanders, Benjamin Franklin and me. What do we all have in common? Well  let me fill you in…..we’re all left handed! One out of every ten people born are left handed, and since my wife isn’t one of the chosen few I told her I’d take control of this review since I’m the only one in my house uniquely qualified to do it.
First let me tell you it’s not easy, really it isn’t. You right handers have it so simple, everything is made for you. Do you know what it’s like to be in a classroom with all right handed desks? And when they find you one of the two lefty desks in the whole school you have to fight for it because a fellow female right handed classmate wants it since it’s different?! That’s a true story, she liked it due to its being different and the teacher had to explain to her that I really needed it. Lefties are faced with a lot of challenges some of them are: scissors, can openers, heck mostly everything involving utensils, copy books, using a mouse etc.

It’s rough, it’s really bad when your parents are both righties and they’re trying to teach you how to tie your shoe’s, he’s doing it backwards is what I heard. Backwards?! To me it’s normal, to everyone else it’s backwards. It’s a pain to make sure you sit on an end in a restaurant to make sure you don’t sit next to a righty because you’ll be banging elbows all through the meal having them give you dirty looks because you chose to be left handed. We didn’t choose to be different but we are and it’s time the rest of the world takes notice because we’re here and we’re not going anywhere!

Thankfully for us southpaws we have a place, a mecca actually where we can go and get things that we need, things made specifically for us. My wife told me we were going to receive a box from Lefty’s of San Francisco ( https://www.leftyslefthanded.com/default.asp)  at first I was mad because those stinkin’ Giants beat my Phillies last year in the NLCS, but I quickly moved off of my dislike and smiled because I knew there was a place out there for my people. When the box arrived I ripped into it like a kid on Christmas morning, I couldn’t wait to see what kind of goodies I had to test. I received the Deluxe Left Handed Kitchen Set which included: a left handed pair of scissors, a can opener, a peeler, bamboo tools designed for a lefty chef, and  a lefty over mitt with the art work visible and the heat resistant fabric on the bottom  no more upside down mitt for me!

This package was great, it’s nice to be able to have a pair of scissors that work, it’s rough using normal scissors, turn them around it’ll work! No, no it won’t, most of the time it just creases the paper and I can’t see what I’m cutting! I cut a bag with my new scissors and proclaimed that I am the only one to be allowed to use the magical scissors with the red handle and if I caught anyone not me using them there would be dire consequences! The can opener, oh my god….finally! Again it’s a simple tool but when you’re forced to use it the wrong way it’s not easy. The bamboo tools are angled for me to use easier when I actually cook something I can get a spoon in there to stir or flip something. The peeler is ambidextrous so we can all use it, but the makers of it were smart enough to make sure both blades are sharp so everyone can use it.

I know being left handed isn’t a horrible curse, but we do have issues and most people laugh it off and tell us to deal with it. Why should we have to deal with it? Why shouldn’t we have utensils and equipment made to make our lives a little easier? Thankfully Lefty’s of San Francisco is there to make our lives a little easier, I salute you (left handed of course) and your wonderful site!

Our trip to the Herr's Potato Chip Factory Tour a fun day out!

On a bright sunny day I was able to accompany my daughter and her camp class to the Herr's Potato Chip Factory tour. The tour is located in Nottingham Pa and is completely FREE!

If you can't make it to PA you can also do a virtual tour online here: http://www.herrs.com/SnackFactoryTours/VirtualTours.html

A cool little pretzel & Chip cabin!

Did you know why potato chips are sometimes green? Well I now know :) They grew too far to the top and turned green, but they are just fine to eat.

I also learned that all of the pretzels and chips, and popcorn that makes it to the floor, this gets swept up and transported to local farms and the cows eat this mixture for breakfast lunch and dinner. Now I don't know how the cows like bbq chips and the like, but I am sure they eat them?

No Pictures are allowed during the tour itself, but we got to see them make, popcorn, tortilla chips, pretzels and potato chips! It was a great day out, we even got to try just baked warm potato chips fresh from the line. Warm chips are delicious! And we all got a bag to bring home.
But of course we had to buy more chips at the gift shop. I bought a variety little bag gift bag. It included a bunch of new flavors, I loved the Jalepeno Popper bag, and the dill pickle chips.

I would recommend going if you are in the Nottingham Pa area. But since this is a real factory it is only open for tours during week days. So going back as a family again will be difficult. But it was a fun time for my daughter and I.
