Academy of Natural Sciences, a great Philadelphia museum the whole family will love!

Are you looking for a great place to visit with the kids in Philadelphia? If you are driving into the city for a say trip, or if you live in the city you will love visiting The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University a great place for adults and kids. Here is a little more information about this great museum from the website:
The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University is America’s oldest natural history museum and a world leader in biodiversity and environmental research. For 200 years, the Academy has explored the remarkable diversity of our natural world, sharing these discoveries with the public through extraordinary collections, innovative exhibits, educational programming, and publications. Founded in 1812, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University is a world-class natural history museum dedicated to advancing research, education, and public engagement in biodiversity and environmental science.

The museum turned 200 recently and it is just as amazing as ever. I remember visiting the museum when I was a child with my parents. I was fascinated with the huge dinosaurs, I could have stayed and looked at them for hours. I was very excited to be able to share the experience of the museum with my daughter for the first time. this past Saturday the weather was awful, so we wanted a nice place inside where we could spend our day and The Academy of Natural Sciences was a great choice for us.

We took a family trip into town,  and prepared for a great day out. Arriving into the museum you are immediately greeted by a t-rex my daughter seemed just as amazed with the dinosaurs and I was when I was her age. But there was so much more than just dinosaurs to enjoy in this great museum

I especially loved the butterfly exhibit, this was new to me and this was the first time I could experience it. I walked through a butterfly exhibit in Epcot once, but this was nothing like that at all. The Butterfly exhibit at The Academy of Natural Sciences was so much better, they positioned the butterflies food close to the ways to insure a close butterfly encounter.

And my daughter and I had a great time. My daughter loved spotting the many different butterflies and I tried to take a picture of each of them. Taking pictures was more difficult that I thought, they fly so fast, and some just did not seem to stop for long.  My husband sat this experience out, he is not a fan of butterflies, but there were many other exhibits to keep him entertained.

We loved seeing the many dioramas of the animals they are breath taking and a must see. My daughters favorite part of the museum was the live animal exhibit, she just fell in love with the ducks! She thought that they were following her and she wanted to take a picture with her favorite, she is so cute.

We had a wonderful time, and I love that the whole experience was educational but still fun. The museum has so many thing for a variety of ages. I would highly recommend The Academy of Natural Sciences. It is a great way to spend the day. Check with a Philadelphia ticket broker ahead of time to see if you can get cheaper tickets.  I love that the prices are reasonable, $15 for adults and $13 for children. An affordable fun time in the city, you and your children will love it.
