Protecting you sight with #TransitionsLens #ad

This is part of a sponsored campaign with Latina Mom Bloggers and Transitions Optical. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

It seems like bad eyesight runs in my family, most of the family on my mother’s side wear glasses many with very high prescriptions. So when I was a little girl a very young girl my mother feared that my eyes were not as good as they should be. Right before school started in Kindergarten, my mother took me for an eye exam. Yes, I needed glasses. I was a little kid with glasses, although now I see kids with glasses as being adorable, I did not feel adorable. I hated my brown glasses, they were not the most attractive frames in my opinion. But I was fortunate enough to be able to get the glasses I needed.

Fast forward 20 or so years I had Lasic surgery… And a long story short, you should not get Lasic surgery until your eyes have “matured” or your eyes will continue to get prescription they were destined to be and your eyes will get worse. About two years after my surgery my eyes progressively got worse and worse, it was like slowly losing my eyesight. It was scary, but fortunately I was not going blind, I was just getting nearsighted again.

But there are people that suddenly lose your eyesight due to an illness or poor health condition.  Just the thought is very frightening to me. Preventative eye checks is so very important, this  can help prevent such a bad situation from occurring. Diabetes is also rampant in my family and having diabetes can lead to glaucoma. So for diabetics it is so very important to use proper eye protection and managing glucose levels.
There are many environments that can lead to eye sight loss including indoor and outdoor hazards, work life, home issues and statistics regarding eye health. Make sure to visit the Healthy Sight For Life for more information about your sight. Take the healthy sight assessment for an assessment of your risks.
Transitions and the American Diabetes Association recently presented an  event in San Antonio to provide Latino and multicultural families with vital eye health information. The event was attended by more than 5,590 . They had 329 FREE vision screenings and all participants were encouraged to visit an Eye Care professional for follow-up care. The information provided at these community fairs regarding the link between Diabetes and healthy eyesight is
imperative for the Latino community.
This leads me to wonder ,“What if I lose my eyesight to a preventative illness? How would that impact my family?” The impact world be astronomical, as a working mom, and working helps my family in a very big way… If I could not work anymore, my family would suffer, and I would hate for that to happen. If you are in Texas, and near the San Antonio area on Saturday, May 18, 2013
9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
make sure to visit the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center for a free vision screening:

They are amazing, I have heard such good things about these quality lenses, they reduce glare, and this leads to less eye strain. The Transitions lenses block out 100% of harmful UVA and UVB rays to help protect the wellness of your eyes.

I make sure that my daughter gets an eye exam each year, I want to protect her precious gift of sight. and fortunately she has not taken after mommy, she has great vision like daddy.  And yes I am now back in glasses, but not I have accepted, that my eyes are not the best but they are me, my glasses are me and they fit my personality.  I make sure to eat eye healthy, I tend to eat more citrus, eggs and sea food all eye healthy foods. An annual eye exam is a must for me as well, as I have learned having an yearly checkup is so very important.

Yep, I had Lasik eye surgery twice and now I need glasses again! :( And NOW my eyes are too flat for contacts. I agree-- wait until your eyes completely mature and seem stable.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 3 and half years old. I have regular eye exams and protect my eyes as much as possible because the thought of losing my sight is scary!

I didn't realize that your eyes could still change after Lasik. Good to know. I always try to stay on top of eyesight recommendations, it's important to me esp because my eyes aren't great. They did get better at my last appointment though so that made happy!

I have always thought these were so cool. I need to get some since I get sick of switching my glasses all the time.

My Grandfather lost most if his vision when I was a baby, he always talked to us about how important our eyes were and not to take our vision for granted.

I should really get an eye exam! I haven't had one since 2006!

I realized how important vision was in taking care of my children when I had an occular migraine and couldn't see. And that was only for 15 minutes. I can't imagine a longer lasting effect on my vision.

That is so cool they have this and it is frightening to have eye issues and starting so young. I was 13 when I found out I needed glasses but my grandson was 3 when he got his first pair.

It's been many years since I tried contact lenses. I had such a bad experience with them. I know they are made to be a lot more comfortable, and probably should give it another go.

I didn't realize that about Lasik surgery. My daughter has wanted tht for years but I think she needs to wait for her eyes to mature.

This is great info Susan, thanks for bringing it to light! That must have been scary when your vision worsened after you had already done the surgery! So glad things are okay!

I'm wearing transition lenses and it's the best thing I ever did. I had heard it would be hard to adjust to them, but I really didn't have a bit of a problem!
