Holiday Gift Guide: Ubisoft Far Cry 4 for the mature gamer on your holiday list!

I've been a gamer since 1979, when I see kids wearing old school shirts with a Nintendo controller on it knowing full well they we're born years after the old 8 bit Nintendo was out of favor I just chuckle. Having said that, I've played just about every type of game that has come down the pike and it takes something truly different for me to take notice and to devote my limited time into playing and getting invested into. Games are an investment to me and since my time is limited and valuable I'm not going to waste in on something unworthy. A company that always makes me take notice is Ubisoft and a game they just dropped on us recently Far Cry 4 has now consumed me.

In Far Cry 4, you won’t just explore Kyrat; you will also uncover its rich mythology. Transcend into the depths of your own mind and discover the spiritual world of Shangri-La, a fabled place sought after by mortals in hope of finding enlightenment. You will fight as a mythical warrior alongside a resilient and fearless white tiger – The Protector of Shangri-La. Work together to defeat the many evil enemies that have taken over Shangri-La, in the hope of restoring peace to the land of Kyrat.

I'm having trouble putting into words how I feel about this game because I have to watch me language! This game is different, unique and all around fun. From single campaign to co-op fun it's action from start to finish. The world you play in (a fictional Himalayan nation of Kyrat) is massive and wide open. A lot of games promise you this and come woefully short but Far Cry is a far cry from that. It's open and huge and with the new second player dropping in and out at any point this makes Far Cry 4 a really revolutionary game. Hunt and be hunted in Far Cry 4 you are both the prey and the predator, you have to hunt for resources and you'll have to tackle rhinos, leopards, honey badgers and black eagles just to name a few.

Getting around and scouting the land is as much fun as anything I've done in a game, from the gyrocopter to the fun of riding on an elephant to the most fun I've had in a game in a while by using the wing suit. And the weapon assortment is rather robust, diverse and very powerful.

  • REVOLUTIONARY OPEN WORLD CO-OP: Far Cry 4 allows for a second player to drop in and out at any point, re-imagining the cooperative experience in the true spirit of Far Cry for the next generation.
  • MASSIVE OPEN WORLD: Discover the most diverse Far Cry world ever created. With terrain spanning from lush forests to the snowcapped Himalayas, the entire world is alive and deadly.
  • ABUNDANT NEW WILDLIFE: From leopards, rhinos, black eagles, and vicious honey badgers, as you embark on your hunt for resources, know that something may be hunting you...
  • NEW WAYS TO GET AROUND: Scout enemy territory from above in the all-new gyrocopter and then plummet back to earth in your wing suit. Climb aboard the back of a six-ton elephant and unleash its raw power on your enemies.
  • POWERFUL NEW WEAPONS: Choose the right weapon for the job, no matter how insane or unpredictable that job might be. With a diverse arsenal, you’ll be prepared for anything.
If you're into shooters you'll be happy with the weapons you get to tote around. On top of all of these cool features is the look of the game itself. Everything looks amazing, the grass and trees and plant life look lush and beautiful and the animals you'll encounter are amazingly life like and really stunning.

Far Cry 4 is the follow up to the number one rated shooter of 2012 Far Cry 3 and it keeps pace with that game and surpasses it in a lot of ways. The game is you (Ajay Ghale) traveling to Kyrat to fulfill the wish of your dying mother, but what you encounter is a massive civil war to overthrow dictator Pagan Min and you're right in the middle of it. That's all I'm saying because I'm not about spoilers and if you want to find out what happens buy the game you won't be disappointed.
