Into the Woods, a great movie for the whole family in theaters Christmas Day! 12/25/14 #intothewoodsevent

Seeing Into the Woods was a bit like a dream and to be able to view this movie in the iconic Samuel Goldwyn Theater, the theater where the Oscar nominee announcements are made... Was this really happening?  Yes, this was all real, and I was ready to see the highly anticipated Disney's version of the Stephen Sondheim 1987 classic musical, Into the Woods. Are you a fan of Into the Woods? Have you seen the play? I was new to Into the Woods. I grew up reading the  Grim Fairy tales, so I knew of these unique characters and these Into the Woods versions. These original fairy tales were fascinating and a bit bizarre, and that is why I loved them. These tales are a bit different from the classic fairy tales you may remember from your childhood.
In the movie Into the Woods, you meet familiar characters, with twists.  The Baker and the Bakers Wife, The Witch, Rapunzel, Cinderella and her Step-Mother and Step-Sisters, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Jacks Mother, Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf and more. Here is a review of Disney's Into the Woods
I loved that this film was not constant singing. Sure singing in a musical is great and is a must...but...constant singing can take away from the story line for me. I loved that this Disney version of Into the Woods had a lot of dialogue and singing. The ratio of dialogue to singing was a nice amount, the songs came in just the right times and flowed with the dialogue nicely.  The songs that were in the film were like works of art making you feel for the characters and setting up the scene nicely.   I was singing "Into the Woods, Into the Woods".... over and over again. These songs are so very catchy and I am sure you will love them too.  Guess what I asked Santa for? Yes a Into the Woods soundtrack so I can enjoy these songs all day long. With Into the Woods you will be delighted to hear what wonderful voices your favorite actors have.
This movie had it all from amazing effects to a spectacular cast and astounding costumes designed by the multiple Oscar winner, Colleen Atwood. The woods them selves were amazing, you were sucked in and really felt as if you were there.  My favorite character of the movie, the witch who was played incomparable Meryl Streep, an amazing actress who can do no wrong and can also sing like an angel. I don't want to spoil the movie for you, but be sure to go to the theater and see it, you will be amazed and fall in love with the movie.  When you make a wish and get what you wished for, was what you wished for really what you wanted or needed? Be careful what you wish for, because you never know you just might get it.

“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), all tied together by an original story involving a Baker and his Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the Witch (Meryl Streep), who has put a curse on them.

Rob Marshall, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” directs the film, which is based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics. Produced by John DeLuca, Marshall, “Wicked” producer Marc Platt and Callum McDougall, “Into the Woods” will be released in theaters December 25, 2014.

After this screening of Into the Woods, we were fortunate to be able to sit in on a Q&A with the cast, it was fantastic to be in the same room as such amazing talent. What was even more amazing was, 24 top bloggers and myself would be doing a private interview with Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski and Tracey Ullman the very next day! So be sure to stay tuned, I will have the interview with these funny and talented ladies for you tomorrow. I will also have much much more to share with you soon from picture from Into the Woods to more cast interviews, you won't want to miss a thing.

If you are looking for a fun family movie that is unlike any other out there, one that is filled with songs, love, action, adventure, laughs and fairy tale lore, Into the Woods is a movie you are going to love. I know that I was a big fan of the film, and can not wait to see it again. When you are finished opening presents Christmas morning, and after all of the holiday festivities are over why not take the family for a treat to the movies? Into the Woods is rated PG and it suitable for the entire family. I will be taking my family this weekend to see this movie delight. I am sure my daughter will be singing along with the movie right along with me as well she is going to love this film. This movie is sure to be an instant classic.

I am sure we will see it at some point. I want to, but no one else in the house has much interest, so I need to see if I can find someone to go with me.

I really loved this film- I thought the over-exaggeration was a bit theatric in some parts, but mostly found it wholly entertaining. I know we were crying with laughter at a few points (waterfall scene<) but also appreciated that it wrapped with some great lessons and messages.

The retelling of fairy tales has actually impressed me, I have gone into them not expecting to like it and I do. It's a testament to the skills that what start off as short 5-10 page stories can actually fill a two hour movie and be entertaining.

As much as a I love musicals, I do NOT like the ones that only sing. Thanks for sharing that tidbit with me. I know I'll be watching this movie and probably have a few boys join me.
