Earth Day, it's a day that reminds us that the planet we live on is really fragile and something we need to take better care of. The awareness that Earth Day creates have helped people open their eyes to the things that we've done in the past that have hurt Earth and how we can and should remedy these issues. One of the things we can all do to help our planet is to be more aware and vigilant of the appliances in our homes and make sure they're Energy Star certified.

Everything from cars, to home appliances, to practically everything in our life is being made to run better, smoother, more efficient. Efficiency is something that not only makes our lives better, but also puts less strain on our natural resources and that in turn makes all our lives better. One thing we can do to help is to purchase energy efficient appliances.
The refrigerator I had growing up, I remember that it would run, and run, and run...that's not good for a lot of things but especially your bottom line. The fridge probably cost my parents I'm not sure how much more money every month in electricity, add that up over the life of the fridge and you've got a lot of money just being wasted. Wasting anything (especially money) is a terrible thing, and with an estimated 170 million refrigerator and refrigerator-freezers in the United States 60 million of that is at least 10 years old (mine included) there is an awful lot of energy costs adding up.

Those of us with a fridge that is a decade of more older as spending about 4.7 billion a year on energy costs, if we were to upgrade to a new Energy Star certified fridge we'd be at least 10% more efficient and that in turn would save us $35 to $300 on energy costs over the lifetime of the unit, add that to the other Energy Star certified products we should have in our lives and that money will add up fast. Use the ENERGY STAR Savings Calculator to find out exactly how much money you'll save by replacing your existing refrigerator.
If you're in the market for a new fridge or other new home appliances a place you need to visit is Best Buy and look at the whole host of Energy Star certified appliances made by LG. LG is more than just televisions, they make refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, and ranges. With the LG Studio Collection you can make your kitchen look good on both the outside and the inside and turn your kitchen in a show place. The Studio Collection is a line designed by Nate Berkus and is as stylish as it is functional, the Studio Collection is the best of both worlds.
If you're in the market for a new appliance go to Best Buy and see all that LG has to offer, you'll get a great deal and if you're looking for a deal with financing Best Buy has some amazing offers including, 18 months major appliance financing or 10% rewards (increased from 5 to 10% for April!) and 10% back in grocery purchases, Best Buy also and offers free delivery with appliance purchased over $399.00. We have a fridge that's similar to that one. I thought I wouldn't like the freezer on the bottom, but I absolutely do!

I think the fridge I have now was energy efficient in its day, but it's over 20 years old now. I don't think it's all that energy efficient now. I'm due for a new fridge!

So many people just associate Earth Day with picking up trash or planting something new. What a great reminder that energy efficiency is important as well.
