A visit to the set of American Housewife, the new addition to the Tuesday night comedy lineup! #ABCTVEvent #AmericanHousewife

****Disney is providing an all-expense paid trip for me to cover this great event ****

When I was a kid, I had a night of comedy with the TGIF lineup, these days get ready for the TGIT (Thank god it’s Tuesday!) lineup!  Tonight is another great episode of American Housewife, episode 102 “The Nap” premieres at 8:30/7:30c. Have you had the chance to see this show? The show stars the hilarious Katy Mixon, and in my opinion this show is a must see!
ABC’s “American Housewife” stars Daniel DiMaggio as Oliver, Meg Donnelly as Taylor, Katy Mixon as Katie Otto, Diedrich Bader as Greg and Julia Butters as Anna-Kat. ABC/Craig Sjodin

“Katie Otto, a confident, unapologetic wife and mother of three, raises her flawed family in the wealthy town of Westport, Connecticut, filled with “perfect” mommies and their “perfect” offspring. Katie’s perfectly imperfect world is upended when her neighbor’s decision to move notches her up from her ideal social standing and sets her on a path to ensure that doesn’t happen, regardless of the consequences”.
Recently while on a press trip to LA, I was very fortunate to visit the set of the super funny new ABC show American Housewife. Now this wasn't a set visit like any other I have ever had before, we did not visit the typical set (the house and rooms inside) we got to check out the set on location! We were going to get a behind-the-scenes peek at the location shoot at First Christian Church in Studio City. What goes into putting a show together on location? A lot!
You have to move everything you could possibly need from the lot for filming at the location. From all of the filming equipment, to the costumes, to the food for everyone on the set, the stars trailers, and even an onsite school had to be set up for the kids.  After everything is in place, it is time to get the site ready for filming.
At this on location spot American Housewife was filming for a holiday episode.  Did you know that most shows film their Halloween episode in August and the Holiday episode in September? They have to be ahead of the game to ensure that the episode is ready when it is scheduled to air.  Executive Producer Sarah Dunn brought us to where they were filming and showed us a bit of the set.
The set was amazing, they had a winter wonderland set up in the rectory of a local church. The set up featured holiday toy soldiers, giant candy canes and a huge teddy bear, it really felt like you were entering Santa’s Workshop! The set was filled with folks working on the show, you may not realize how many people go into making an episode of your favorite shows, yup you guessed it...a lot!
The crew did a great job making this rectory feel like to was a Christmas wonderland. We got to see Katy Mixon, Carly Hughes and Ali Wong prepare to film a scene. Each were practicing their lines and their facial expressions to make sure they got it exactly right when the cameras started rolling.
While on set we all met with Katy Mixon (“Katie Otto”), Leslie Bibb (“Val”), Carly Hughes (“Angela”) and Ali Wong (“Doris”). The ladies we able to pop in between filming and say hi and take pictures with us all.
Katy Mixon had the most adorable southern accent, I could have sat there and listened to her speak for the longest time! As soon as my husband saw the shot of Leslie Bibb and I he said "Isn't that the girl from Iron Man?" ever the superhero fan he recognized her from her role in the film.
Each were super nice and really were as excited to meet us as we were to meet them. While I was there I got a new job...as an actor on the show! Just kidding, but it was super cool to sit in one of these actors chairs, it made me seem all professional and stuff, ha ha.
Do you want to watch a show that may be more like your life, with its warts and all? Sure, watching reminds us to laugh, and to know we all have issues but we will make it through.  American Housewife is a breath of fresh air, a show that is a different kind of show, a show that revolves around the mother instead of mom just being a part of the show, mom is the star of the show. Much like she is in real life.
I checked out a few episodes of American Housewife and this show is super funny and real. From the unique family dynamic, to the body image acceptance and overall lightheartedness, I love the different characters, they are not static and the usual and this is a great thing. Does this seem like a show that is right up your alley? Well tune-in to the newest episode of American Housewife tonight 8:30/7:30c, in this episode it shows just how hard it can be for a housewife to take that ellusive beloved "nap". This is just the second episode, so you can get caught up quickly on your soon to be favorite show.
