Slingbox player for mobile devices, a great item for travel!

I love my Slingbox, I have been a fan for years. I was fortunate enough to be able to try the SlingPlayer Mobile app.

What is SlingPlayer Mobile?

SlingPlayer Mobile  Watch Your TV on Your Smartphone or Tablet. Really.

With a Slingbox at home and SlingPlayer on your compatible mobile device, enjoy live or recorded TV over a 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi connection. Pause, fast-forward, rewind and even schedule DVR recordings. Never miss another show or game – whether you're in the back yard, out to lunch or on the other side of the world. It's your TV. Don't let it be trapped in your living room. Set it free!

My Review:

My wonderful husband, is the guest poster,

I’m a gadget guy, I love getting a new toy especially one that makes being away from home a little easier. What am I talking about? A Slingbox that little piece of technical wizardry is by itself amazing, but add to that little marvel an app for my iPad and well now that’s just flat out AWESOME!

In a nutshell the Slingbox hooks into your cable box and works through your router making it possible for you to have access to your TV anywhere in the world as long as you have a decent internet connection. It’s amazing, I was in New Orleans sitting in my hotel room watching a Phillies game on my laptop with a less than stellar internet connection and the picture quality was still stunning. But this review isn’t for the actual Slingbox itself but for its app which I have on my iPad.

We travel and our most traveled to destination is Disney World, and as many of you who have gone to WDW know their cable isn’t all that great. I like Stacy, but after a while her perkiness makes me want to strangle someone. The issue is there isn’t much to watch when we’re actually in our room. Along with loving to watch sports I’m also a wrestling fan and the cable in WDW doesn’t carry the USA network so I can’t watch RAW on Monday night’s and I like to have my “sports entertainment” fix, the Slingbox allows me to watch RAW because I have access to my own TV and cable and can watch whatever I want whenever I want to.

Now with my iPad app (it’s $14.99 in the Apple app store) I don’t even have to be near my PC just as long as I have 3G service I can watch TV. The picture quality on my iPad is really crisp, I’m amazed that I’m able to control my TV through my iPad and the TV is one thousand miles away. TV, DVR, On Demand all right there on my phone. Stuck in a long line to ride Soarin’? Pull out the iPad and see what’s on, you’re always connected. I’ve downloaded a ton of apps since I’ve owned an iPad none of them are nearly as useful or as cool as my Slingbox app. If you have a Slingbox and are on the fence about dropping the money on the app don’t hesitate it’s well worth it. This is a truly ingenious invention to begin with but adding the ability to access it through a smart phone is just amazing.
