Company Information (from Spoonful of comfort website):
Chicken soup has long been touted by grandmas everywhere as being "good for what ails you".
Not only is chicken soup the hot comforting meal of choice when you are under the weather, this traditional soup has been found to provide actual health benefits as well. Dr. Stephen Rennard, a specialist in
pulmonary medicine, put grandma's theory to the test. He has found that chicken soup can inhibit inflammation of the cells in the nasal passage which reduces the symptoms of a cold.
Chicken soup has also been found to contain an amino acid that is similar to a drug used to treat some respiratory infections. While there is no conclusive evidence that chicken soup is a cure-all, it does seem probable that it can help to alleviate symptoms. Most importantly, it is a good source of nutrients and re-hydration.
Be comforted by the warmth and greatness of our old-fashion chicken soup; a home-style taste that even grandmas would approve of!
Our old-fashion chicken soup recipe is handmade the traditional way using all natural ingredients, no additives or preservatives. With great care, it is prepared in small batches to draw out the best flavors and ensure a superior taste that can not be matched by large scale processing.
My review:
In the mail the other day I received a package from Spoonful of Comfort (http://www.spoonfulofcomfort.com/,) full of a nice assortment of goodies. The first and most impressive was the 64 ounce jar of chicken soup! It's quite impressive, it's massive. Along with the herculean sized soup were 6 dinner rolls and 6 oatmeal raisin cookies. It's essentially a meal in a box for you to send to a sick or down on their luck loved one to have as a pick me up. This is a wonderful idea, anyone would be happy to receive this as a gift. It's homemade chicken soup! I mean who doesn't love chicken soup? What's the first thing we think of when we're sick or getting sick? Antibiotics? No! Chicken soup! It usually cures what ails you! The box is obviously contains perishable items so it was packed with 2 large ice packs to keep everything fresh, our ice packs were still pretty frozen so they seem to do their job very well. It's really a simple process, open box, unpack box, put soup in a pot and warm up. You don't have to be Gordon Ramsay or even Chef Boyardee to do this, this is bad cook proof.
I heated the soup and within a few minutes we were ready to eat. I called my husband in, well the smell of the soup cooking called him in.....he was ready bowl in one hand spoon in the other. We were blown away by the taste of the soup! It was delicious, everything about the soup was on point. From the size of the chicken, to the noodles (they were the perfect size not too small and not too big where they would suck up all the broth, they were a hearty noodle who did their job,) and the perfectly cut veggies. This soup was a home run in our house! The soup is normally 4 to 6 servings but with my husband and his soup bowl he stole from a giant.......we got 3 servings. If he ate with a normal sized bowl it would have easily fed the 4 to 6 as claimed. The rolls that accompanied the soup were the perfect touch, they were not overly doughy and were very light and not heavy. We warmed them in the microwave for a few seconds and added butter, can't go wrong with a buttered roll! Then we moved onto dessert....oatmeal raisin cookies. I didn't tell my husband they were oatmeal raisin (he's not a fan,) from a quick glance the cookies look like they're chocolate chip, I led him to believe they were chocolate chip (sneaky of me,) he bit into it and his eye's lit up! He declared that cookie one of the best cookies he's ever eaten! Period, hands down one of the best cookies EVER. He's not easily impressed and doesn't like raisins, so for him to say that is saying something, and I have to agree with him, the cookies were excellent. The cookie itself had a wonderful cinnamon flavor and the raisins were a nice compliment and weren't overbearing. This package was a huge hit with us, from well soup to nuts er cookies we were quite impressed. If you have a sick loved one or someone in your life who needs their spirit's lifted don't hesitate to head over to http://www.spoonfulofcomfort.com/ and send them a care package. A spoonful or sugar makes the medicine go down, but a spoonful of comfort will really make them feel better
