Holiday Gift Guide: Acacia Creations- Hand crafted fair trade jewelry - Review (And a giveaway)

Since our products debuted in the U.S. in 2007, we've been working overtime to meet demand and we couldn't be happier. That's because at Acacia Creations we operate according to fair trade principles and return a percentage of each sale to our employees in Kenya. That means the more we sell, the more our workers and their families benefit! Also, because our items are made from recycled and reclaimed materials, the more we sell, the more we keep from being thrown away.

We currently have 21 men and women working with us in Nairobi to make the one-of-a-kind pieces you see here. In keeping with fair trade practices, each of our employees is paid a monthly salary IN ADDITION TO receiving a percentage of each sale. If you're wondering what that means....
  1. At the end of every month the artisans of Acacia Creations receive their regular monthly salary. (It's standard practice in Kenya to pay an entire month's salary in one single payment at the end of the month).
  2. Throughout the course of a month, our workers are also paid a certain amount for every single piece of jewelry they make. In other words, they receive a percentage of the sale of that item before it's even sold! Depending on the item, they earn between 5 and 15% of the item's wholesale price. This ensures that our workers are paid throughout the month.
The are so many wonderful items on the site, so of my favorites are:

I was lucky enough to be able to review a  Barefoot Trade Bracelet:

These new elastic bracelets are changing lives in Kenya. Made from hand-painted recycled glass, they're good for the environment too! For every bracelet you purchase, we will use $1 educate the children of our employees and suppliers in Kenya. Now with a removable silver-plated clasp! Minimum order: 3

Education is a privilege, not a right for most people in Kenya. Free public schooling does not exist as it does in the United States. Students must purchase their own textbooks and often pay tuition to attend public schools. Yet many families cannot even afford the most basic needs like shoes and pencils.

Barefoot Trade Bracelets are helping to buy shoes, school supplies and tuition so that Kenyan children can have brighter futures. Thanks to your purchases so far, Barefoot Trade Bracelets have provided tuition, supplies and new uniforms for over 20 children. Thank you!
As an added bonus, these bracelets are made from hand-painted recycled glass so they are good for the environment too!!

My Review:

It is hard to think of education as a privileged, not a right. I love what Acacia Creations is doing for the kids in Kenya, it is heartwarming

I love to give back during the holiday season. We participate in food drives, volunteer, collect toys. We try to do what we can (we help through the year as well) even more than usual during the holiday season. Did you know that your holiday purchase can also do some good?

Acacia Creations sells fair trade hand crafted products that come from Kenya. Their items are made from recycled and reclaimed materials, what a great way to give back. All of the items on the site are homemade and may vary in color and dimensions. What you receive is your unique item, like a snowflake no two are exactly the same.

I was lucky enough to be able to review the Bare Foot Trade bracelet. This is a well-crafted bracelet, that is made with love. And knowing money is going towards a great cause, I love it even more.

With the holidays right around the corner, why not give back this year with a gift for that special someone on your list from Acacia Creations
