Dei Fratelli - Review (And a Giveaway)

Are you looking fora great, pasta sauce, tomatoes, or other sauces to use in your cooking? I would love to introduce you to a great company Dei Fratelli. Here is a little information about Dei Fratelli from the website:

There’s a great deal of pride that goes into even the simplest meals you create for your family. We understand that too. That’s why family is the secret ingredient that goes into every Dei Fratelli product.

In fact, Dei Fratelli means “of the brothers.” From lasagna to ravioli to any other Italian recipe, it just tastes better when you make it with the simple goodness of Dei Fratelli. To us, it’s all about family.

My Review:

I have to say I am a fan of Dei Fratelli Tomato products.  I had never tried them before… why, I don’t know. I have been missing out. I received:

Spaghetti Sauce,
Whole Tomatoes
Crushed Tomatoes
All Purpose Italian Sauce
Chopped Italian Tomatoes
Salsa
Sloppy Joe Sauce
Pizza Sauce

As a working mom, it is hard to get a homemade dinner together when I get home. I have to admit after a long day at work, when I come home I am tired and sometimes I do not feel like cooking. But my family has to eat right? I have to make something. Last night we tried the Dei Fratelli tomato sauce, with a tri colored pasta, it was very good.

My daughter was a big fan, saying “this is yummy” and asking for seconds. The sauce had just the right amount of tomatoes, and it had a great flavor. My husband who is from an Italian family loved the sauce, saying it was almost as good as his mother makes. I think he just does not want to make her mad… :  ) Another night was Sloppy Joe night.

This was my favorite, I love Sloppy Joes, they just remind me of my childhood. The Sloppy Joe lunch day was my favorite! And this Sloppy Joe mix did not disapont. I loved the sweet flavor and this was a hit with the family as well.

The tomatoes are fresh tasting, and  delicious. The weekends are when I really cook. I cook and cook and cook. I try to prepare for the week (when I can). While checking out the Dei Fratelli website, I found quite of few recipes that I will have to make starting with this:

Spinach Tomato Tart
  • 14.5 oz. Dei Fratelli Whole Tomatoes
  • 1 Pie crust, frozen
  • 1/2 cup Orzo or spaghetti, broken into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 large yellow Onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried Basil, crumbled
  • 1 cup low-fat Cottage cheese
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 package (10 ounce) frozen chopped Spinach, thawed, drained and squeezed dry
  • 1 cup coarsely shredded low-fat Monterey Jack Cheese (4 ounce)
Preparation:
Heat oven to 450°F. Fit crust into a 9-inch pie pan and make a fluted stand-up edge. Place a square of foil on the crust and fill with dried beans, rice or pie weights. Bake, uncovered, until lightly golden, 9 to 11 minutes. Remove from oven and remove dried beans. Meanwhile, cook the orzo according to package directions and drain well.
Heat oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat 1 minute. Add onion, reduce heat to medium and sauté, stirring occasionally, until tender, 5 minutes. Add garlic and basil and sauté, stirring occasionally, 2 minutes. Remove skillet from heat and stir in orzo.
Purée the cottage cheese with the eggs in a food processor or blender; add to skillet. Mix in spinach and Monterey Jack cheese, mix well. Spoon into prepared piecrust and smooth top with a spatula. Bake, uncovered, 25 minutes.
Meanwhile, slice Dei Fratelli Whole Tomatoes. Arrange on baked tart in an overlapping circle. Bake, uncovered, 20 minutes more or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean.

This will be what I am making next.  It sure sounds different, and delicious.  And not that difficult to make. I will have to let you guys know how this turns out.

So if you are looking for tomato products, for sauces or add to recipes I would recommend Dei Fratelli. I was very impressed with the quality of the products. And I am now a fan of Dei Fratelli for life! Give them a try you will become a fan too!
