Holiday Gift Guide: Potato Chip Science: 29 Incredible Experiments – Review (And a giveaway)

Are you looking for a great book for a child, well I have something that is so much more than a book, does a child on your holiday list this year like to read, and do fun experiments? I have the gift for you!  PotatoChip Science! Here is a little more info about Potato Chip Science from the website:

Kurzweil & Son, a father-son team of snack food scientists and overseers of the Chip Science Institute (CSI). Allen Kurzweil is the award-winning author of Leon and the Spitting Image, Leon and the Champion Chip, The Grand Complication, and A Case of Curiosities.

What is Potato Chip Science? Here’s the formal definition: the branch of science specifically devoted to the composition, structure, reactions, and properties of thin-sliced, deep-fried tubers, uncooked potatoes, potato chip bags, lids, and tubes.
What does the Potato Chip Science kit contain? Each bag of Potato Chip Science includes a 96-page instruction book, a digital clock, a sound module, zinc and copper electrodes, a wire connector, a potato propulsion pipe, a special starch knife that’s both child-safe and eco-friendly, 6 chip lids, and accompanying optical stickers. We’ve also included 4 googly eyes, which have no scientific value whatsoever, but are incredibly useful when tricking out a Spuddy Buddy or Chip-Can Gobbler.

My Review:

I am always looking for new and interesting things for my daughter to do with her time. Watching TV and playing video games all the time is just no good, and I want her to be able to enjoy life without them all the time.  A book is great, but my daughter has a short attention span, and getting her to read for “fun” is not always easy. When I had the chance to review the Potato Chip Science kit. This is so much more than a book, I was sure my daughter would love this! And boy was I right, as soon as the package arrived I had to show it to my daughter. At first I played a little trick on her I told her I had some “chips” for her, (the kit is packed in a chip bag, what a great idea!) I gave her the bag, and for a second she was ready to open this up for the “chips” but then she realized this was much more than a bag of chips. This was a bag of fun experiments and more!

As soon as we were able to pick up a potato she wanted to do the Spuddy Buddy experiment.  My daughter could not wait for the “grass” to grow out of the potato bottom.
My daughter loved the kit, and will be doing the experiments for weeks to come I am sure!  And of course she loved the stickers, I have never seen a child that loves stickers as much as my daughter.  I love that this kit gets my daughter to use her brain, and she still has fun.

The kit is for kids  around ages 8-12, my daughter is 7 and she had no problem with the kit, the manual has some words she needed help reading but otherwise, the kit was great for her age too.  She just needed an adult to “play with” her with the kit. If you are looking for a gift that is (As it says on the bag) "high on saturated facts" (ha ha) the Potato Chip Science kit is for you. Why not give a gift that will get the kids mind working and it is fun for the whole family to do the experiments together.

With the holidays almost here, if you have a child on your holiday list that would love to do these Potato Chip experiments this is a great gift! And the price will not break the bank the kit is available on Amazon for only $12.21. So if you are looking for a fun gift, that is affordable and educational this is for you.
