Vicks Flu season event #BehindEar

A few my fellow Philly mom bloggers got together for an informative session about how to keep your child healthy during this flu season. Vicks brought us all together for a nice luncheon with a special guest speaker Dr Meg Meeker Pediatrician, mother and best-selling author of six books, Dr. Meg Meeker is the country’s leading authority on parenting, teens and children’s health.

Dr Meg had some great advice for the mother attending, including:

·         If your child has a fever, to help lower the fever you can put your child in a tepid bath (not a cold bath!)
  • ·         When your child is sick. Lots of liquid is needed.
  • ·         If your child has a fever give your child children’s liquid Tylenol. Wait for 40 minutes, if the fever has not gone down it is time to contact a doctor.
  • ·         Use a humidifier when your child has a cold and use a vaporizer when they have a fever or a flu.
  • ·         A humidifier can be used year round to clear the air. But a vaporizer should just be used when you are sick.

I never knew the difference between a humidifier and a vaporizer. And it was interesting to learn that there is no difference from a cool mist to a warm mist humidifier, it is just a personal preference.

She demonstrated the ease of use of the Vicks Behind the ear thermometer. Now this is something every mother needs. We used to have an inner ear thermometer and boy was that a hassle to use, you had to use these sanitary caps to make the thermometer work. We would lose the caps, then the thermometer would not work. And my daughter hater having the ting in her ear, so on top of being miserable from being sick she was worse when we had to use that inner ear thermometer.

But this Vicks Behind the ear thermometer is so very different! It is a snap to use, just press a button and take the temp. behind the hear. And seconds later you have the temperature. This also has a great color feature, so if you are like me (little numbers are sometimes hard to see) you will not miss the color alert. If the temperature is normal, the color is green, slightly high yellow, and high red.

Dr Meg also suggested taking the temperature a few times just to make sure you are doing it right. And this amazing thermometer saves the last temperature taken. So you can be sure.

It was nice seeing all of the wonderful humidifier choices. They are so much sleeker and quitter than they used to be. The humidifier we had in the house when I was young was a beast! It was huge and it made so much noise, I don’t miss it at all. Vicks even has a cute humidifier, that is also a nightlight that projects stars on the ceiling called Starry Night. My daughter would just love that, a great humidifier and a cool nightlight, you just can’t beat that.

Dr Meg was sweet, and a great speaker. She really kept our attention with some great advice. I am looking forward to reading her book The 10 Habits of Happy Mothers: Reclaiming Our Passion, Purpose, and Sanity.  We all received a great goody bag from Vicks, with all of the Vicks essentials to survive this Flu season. I just want to thank PSMM and Vicks for this great opportunity.
