Holiday Gift Guide: The Original Christmas Classics DVD Review (And a Giveaway)

Part of the fun of Christmas is getting to watch all the classic Christmas shows that we watched as kids and getting to share them with our daughter is something we love to do. These shows (Rudolph, Frosty, Frosty Returns and Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town) are timeless and instantly bring me back to my childhood. Now all of these classics are available on Blu Ray and are looking better than ever. It’s funny to me to think my daughter will never know what it’s like to watch anything in less than high definition!
I love Rudolph and the misfit toys but I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for Hermey the elf who wants to be a dentist. Things haven’t changed when we watched Rudolph the other night and I first saw Hermey I smiled just like I did when I was a little girl. Not only is the Rudolph story great the music in the show is just as memorable Silver & Gold and Holly Jolly Christmas are now as much a part of Christmas as Rudolph is.
Frosty the Snowman narrated by Jimmy Durante is based off of the song and is my husband’s favorite mainly because of Jimmy Durante. He loves his version of Frosty mainly because of the “tumpitty-tump-tump” part of the song because Jimmy Durante isn’t exactly James Earl Jones when it comes to narrating. Who hasn’t built a snowman and wished it turned into Frosty? And I still get that anxious feeling when the temperature starts to rise and threaten Frosty’s life. But thankfully Frosty manages to keep it together and we have proof of that with Frosty Returns it’s not quite the same as the original but generally sequels aren’t. Still Frosty Returns is a fun show to watch and the voice talent in it is top notch (Brian Doyle Murray, John Goodman and Jonathan Winters.)
And we find out how Santa became Santa in Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town. This show is narrated by Fred Astaire and features Mickey Rooney and Keenan Wynn. We owe the kids in Sombertown a debt of gratitude. Why you might ask? Well if they had toys Kris Kringle wouldn’t have been put into action to get the poor children toys and thus we would have no Santa. I don’t know about you but I like Santa and I love to see what he leaves for me under my tree!

If you’re looking for shows that the whole family can watch this upcoming holiday season look no further, not only do the shows look great in high def but you also get a bonus CD with the shows including  "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", "Holly Jolly Christmas" and "Silver & Gold" by Burl Ives, "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by Bobby Rydell, "Let it Snow" by Chicago, "Winter Wonderland" by Jewel, and "Merry Christmas Baby" by Otis Redding.
