Teachers, to me they are one of the most important professions.
Teachers shape your lives, they make you the person that you are. I have the
utmost respect and admiration for anyone who is a teacher. Did you know that
when I was little all I ever wanted to be was a teacher? Well it is true, I
loved to teach and help people it just seemed like the dream job for me. When I
was little, my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Cereni was an amazing teacher.
She took a different approach to teaching, and it clicked with me, as a shy
child she understood and took her time with me it was wonderful. She was a hands
on teacher that really cared about her students. She made such an impact in my
life, I kept in touch with her all these years. I don’t want to give away my
age, but I went to 3rd grade many many years ago but I can still
remember her as clear as day.
Hilton
HHonors, announced the 30 finalists of its Teacher Treks Travel Grant
Competition . Now through April 30, 2013, you can vote for their
favorite finalist at www.hhonors.com/TeacherTreks to help choose the 15 top
winners.
With this great program, Hilton will fund 15 teachers to travel and to experience first-hand the subject they teach and bring their experiences back to the classroom through Teacher Treks.
The panel of judges will choose 30 finalists from 20 different
states. The awards in this great contest are:
15 winners will receive a grant valued at $6,000 to travel to a
destination of their choice; in addition to the trip, each winning teachers’
school will also receive a $2,500 grant to use for cultural activities or
enhancements
Runners-up: 15 runners-up will each receive a $2,500 grant for
their school to use for cultural activities or
enhancements
One winner from all submissions will receive a cultural excursion
for their classroom valued at $1,500
From those that voted in the Teacher Treks competition, 10 random
winners will receive one Hilton HHonors Gift Card valued at
$250
Isn’t this amazing! What a wonderful gift for a teacher. Teachers
work so hard, and this is an amazing adventure that they can use to teach. You
can one vote per day during the duration of the voting period, and the winners
will be announced in May 2013.

What a fascinating idea for a contest! In her essay, finalist Sandra K wrote that she would travel to the Indian Ocean islands of Zanzibar, just off the coast of Tanzania, and Mauritius, east of Madagascar “… to observe firsthand how the people on both of these islands – comprised of minorities and the meeting of cultures that have been in conflict in other parts of the world – have found ways to live side-by-side…”
How cool is that?
